The IIHS, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, is an independent, non-governmental safety-testing organization dedicated to reducing injuries, death, and property damage from motor vehicle crashes. A vehicle must earn good ratings in six crashworthiness evaluations such as head restraint tests, front crash prevention, roof strength, and the passenger-side small overlap front test to qualify as a Top Safety Pick. The 2019 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback* as well as the 2019 Mazda6** have been awarded the IIHS Top Safety Pick.
